This vase is made from alabaster, a natural mineral that can come in varying shades of white, lime green, even a beautiful rusty orange. Each one is unique and not necessarily as pictured here. Alabaster has been used by sculptors, artists, and for common household items going back to the 7th century BC. It was in Matthew 26 and Mark 14 that Jesus was anointed with an expensive oil (Spikenard) being carried in an alabaster jar.
