Selichot Service
Selichot (pronounced, "slee-chote") in Hebrew literally means “excuse me.” Services begin with Psalm 145. A basic part of the Selichot service is recitations of the "Thirteen Attributes" of God (Ha’Shem) given to Moses after the Golden Calf incident (Exodus 34:6-7). The different “Names of God” reveal different characteristics of God. Selichot service times vary and can include daily services (except Shabbat) for the month of Elul and/or a late evening service usually held between midnight and sunrise at the end of the last Shabbat before Rosh Hashanah.
