Pentecost (Shavuot)
The Festival of Pentecost commemorates the giving of the Torah, and the birth of the nation of Israel, when the Israelites accepted God's instructions and became his covenant people. Pentecost is the fiftieth day after the Sabbath after Passover. It represents the time when the Israelites were truly free after their liberation from Egyptian bondage on Passover, for when they became God's covenant they were liberated into relationship with God as his bride.
