The Tallit is the fulfillment of God's instruction to the Israelites, that they attach fringes (tzitziyot) to the four corners of their garments (Numbers 15:38-40). In later years, the Jewish people created a special Tallit so they could fulfill God's commandment, a shawl that is worn during times of prayer. White is the preferred color for the Tallit because Scripture says that God himself is clothed in a garment of light (Psalm 1 04:2). The most commonly used Tallit is trimmed in black so that the Jewish people will be reminded of the destruction of the Temple. Another popular style is a white Tallit trimmed in blue, which was the pattern for the flag of the nation of Israel.
