Rosh Hashanah

The Festival of Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the New Year on the Jewish civil calendar. In biblical times, it was called Yom Teruah, the day of the blowing of the shofars, which signaled the beginning of the Ten Days of Awe. The Ten Days of Awe is when Jews prepared their hearts for the highest and holiest day of the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). On Rosh Hashanah, the shofars are blown repeatedly to awaken the people to the need for repentance and renewal of relationships with God and their fellow man.
